Kevin Macdonald is a seasoned investor, director and advisor with over twenty five years of experience collaborating with the owners and managers of small and mid-sized companies to increase the value of their businesses. 


Since 1990, Mr. Macdonald has served as a director of 21 companies and worked in a range of industries including business services, consumer products, distribution/logistics, food retailing, high value manufacturing, information systems, medical services, packaging, technology/software, transaction processing and transportation.  He has worked closely with senior management teams to optimize business performance; increase efficiency; improve pricing; develop new products; enter new markets; strengthen sales and marketing; recruit key personnel; refine compensation systems; bolster infrastructure; execute acquisition programs; and manage capital needs.


Mr. Macdonald has also established a strong track record as an investor, having led or co-led 14 private equity investments involving $650 million of invested capital and returning $1.57 billion (2.4x; 33% ROI) amid varied economic and market conditions.  As an active, hands-on investor, Mr. Macdonald has developed deep transaction experience and extensive networks for identifying, evaluating, financing and strengthening private enterprises.  Since 1990, he has completed over 60 primary and follow-on acquisitions and a wide range of private and public debt and equity financings.  He has raised over $2.0 billion of private equity capital from institutional investors and high net worth individuals.  Mr. Macdonald also has direct experience with distressed debt, restructurings and recapitalizations.


Mr. Macdonald founded Lightbridge Partners to work with promising businesses with a flexible combination of capital, advice and relationships.  Prior to establishing Lightbridge Partners, he was a founding member and senior partner of The Clipper Group, a $1.5 billion private equity firm that spun out of Credit Suisse First Boston in 1990, and its successor, Monitor Clipper Partners, a $2.0 billion private equity firm affiliated with Monitor Group, a leading global strategy and business consulting firm.  He also served as a Managing Partner of Morgenthaler Private Equity.  Mr. Macdonald earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar, and a BA in Economics from Yale University.  He resides in Dedham, Massachusetts with his wife Lynda and three children.
